The interior of the restaurant has an appropriate style: the vaulted ceiling, walls like you would find within dungeons, forged lamps looking like torches, chains used as coat-hangers and knights' armours. Two chamber halls for 35 seats are furnished with massive wooden benches with the backs upholstered with pieces of leather. Waiters are dressed in ancient clothes. It seems that Bruegel painted them on his canvas but now they have miraculously revived in order to serve you. The prices are low like you would find in the Mediterranean although helpings are generous, served with the vim corresponding to the grand epoch. The cafe-bar has also European cuisine. Dishes are cooked using old recipes and are very tasty and special.

The brewery-restaurant concept didn't exist in Russia until Tinkoff came along in 1998, and now this cavernous space is the benchmark for copycat bars here and around the country. The lively dinner spot is popular among Russian and expat yuppies, with its sushi bar, beer hall, and dance hall, all offering an extensive Russian-German menu - and, of course, beer. Tinkoff's own brew comes in several unfiltered flavors and some filtered ones, from pale white to deep dark, and includes a nonalcoholic choice. The beer-based cocktails are potent stuff. If the Tinkoff brand doesn't impress you, try one of the German, Irish, or Japanese beers on offer. The Caesar salad, a trendy menu item in Russia of late, is copious and tasty, and the quail with figs is surprisingly subtle for such a larger-than-life restaurant. The German sausages are rather rubbery. The room containing the stage blares recorded music when no one is playing live, so it's loud any time of day; ask for a different room if that bothers you. The place fills up fast on weekend nights.
